When the volunteer called SFTH to tell us about Princess & Kiki she couldn't stop crying. She told us how their family badly neglected them, and when she went to see for herself, she found what looked like two sets of eyes hidden through clumps and clumps of dirty matted hair. Table scraps lingered in their bowls behind the kitchen gate they called home. She reached out to them. She described the way they looked, like they had never been combed in their lives, dreadlocks so knotted up it pulled on their skin to the point of pain. She cried as she described how filthy and unkept they were. We assured her we would take them next morning and they were immediately brought to our vet. Within a day it was determined this 9-year-old pair were unneutered and with severe dry eyes, but otherwise healthy for their age. These poor little Angels had to endure living in the kitchen for years. No walks, no brushing, no company, no vet care. As they got to know vet staff and walkers, they started to enjoy being doted upon, being walked, pet and given treats. Amazing what a little love can do, the transformation began almost immediately.
Princess & Kiki are now spayed and neutered, UTD with all vaccines and in a temporary foster home. Although they love children we think they would do best with older kids. We want this for them simply because we want them to be spoiled! After all they’ve been through they need to feel loved and cared for above everything. The foster home reports that they have made tremendous strides and transformed into the most amazing, comical dogs, often playing and rolling on top of one another in the home. Given 3 -4 walks a day and there have been no accidents in the home but a backyard would be just as nice. They LOVE belly rubs, being in your lap and Kiki loves to chew on rawhide bones….he also does this cute little thing where he rubs on his back until he finds the perfect spot to relax in, paws in the air….who knew? And Princess, well, she’s just a doll.
We are looking for someone very special, someone with a huge heart, kindness, and lot’s of love. Someone who can give Princess & Kiki the love and care they deserve. They are really nice, sweet dogs who love to play but also love to sit on the couch and relax just as well. Now that they have experienced neglect from humans, we are determined to have them experience the best side of humans for the rest of their lives.
